The Champion 400 H is a car model of the car brand Champion from the Rheinische Automobil-Fabrik, Hennhöfer & Co. OHG . It appeared in June 1953 as the successor to the Champion 400 . In June 1954 the Rheinische Automobil-Fabrik, Henning Thorndal, took over production; it ended in October 1954. The successor was the largely identical Maico MC 400 / H from Maico .
body
Like the previous model, the Champion 400 H had a two-seater all-steel body in the form of a convertible sedan , which was welded to a central tubular frame . The front wheels hung on double wishbones with rubber torsion springs and telescopic shock absorbers, the rear wheels on a pendulum axle, also with rubber torsion springs. The rack and pinion steering and the hydraulically operated drum brakes on all four wheels also largely corresponded to those of the previous model, but with an insignificantly reduced total braking area of 292 cm².

With a wheelbase of 180 cm and a track width of 120 cm, the vehicle length was 317 cm, the vehicle width 147 cm and the vehicle height 130 cm. With an empty weight of 520 kg, the permissible total weight was 820 kg.
drive
The water-cooled two - cylinder two - stroke in-line engine from Heinkel had a displacement of 396 cm³ and developed 15 hp (11 kW) at 4000 rpm; the maximum torque of 3.0 mkp (29.4 Nm) was reached at 2600 rpm. It was installed in the rear of the vehicle and drove the rear axle via a three-speed gearbox with a center shift lever. The transmission was in front of the rear axle. The top speed was 90 km / h. The fuel consumption was given as 5.6 liters per 100 km.

The new price was initially 3995 DM , from July 1954 3850 DM. 1969 copies were made between June 1953 and October 1954.
