Champion Township is a community in Marquette County in the state of Michigan .
geography
Champion Township has a total area of 323.7 km², of which 313.2 km² is land and 10.5 km² (3.23%) is water. The parish is located in a small valley near the eastern end of Lake Michigamme in the north-central part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan . Located about 30 miles west of Marquette on US Highway 41 and Michigan State Route 28 , the small, quiet village was a busy iron-mining settlement of 2,500 people in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Demographics
In 2010 there were 297 inhabitants, 126 households and 91 families in the municipality. The population density was 0.9 inhabitants / km². The ethnic makeup of the community is 99.33% white and 0.67% African American. 29.4% were Finnish, 18.6% French, 11.7% German, 11.3% Canadian, 7.8% Polish, and 5.2% English.
23.8% of the population consisted of families with children under the age of 18, 55.6% married couples, 19.8% of all households were single households.
The age structure of the population consisted of 20.9% under 18 year olds, 7.4% 18 to 24 year olds, 22.9% between 25 and 44 year olds, 34.0% between 45 and 45 years old 64 year olds and 14.8% were 65 years or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 women there were 112.1 men, for every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 104.3 men.
The median income for a household in the ward was $ 33,571 and the median income for a family was $ 33,214. Men had a median income of $ 30,000 and women of $ 14,375. The per capita income for the parish was $ 17,396. Over 11.0% of families and 12.3% of the total population lived below the poverty line, of which 22.5% of those surveyed were aged 18 years and none were 65 years or older.
