Chaos Computer Club Zurich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chaos Computer Club Zurich (also CCCZH ) is an association under Swiss law and the only offshoot of the German Chaos Computer Club (CCC) in Switzerland with Erfastatus, the status of an experience exchange group and thus part of the CCC . The CCCZH represents the CCC for the Canton of Zurich and aims to implement its demands locally. Above all, a constructive and responsible use of technology is in the foreground, from which political demands are derived. The experience exchange group organizes weekly meetings, a monthly radio broadcast called Hackerfunk and individual annual or one-time events.

activities

Weekly meetings

Some of the members meet weekly in the Hackerspace , which has existed since the end of 2014, at Röschibachstrasse 26 in the Wipkingen district of Zurich; these are the so-called chaos meetings . Activities of the association are also planned and current events discussed; The aim is also to live out a hacker culture. The meetings are publicly announced on the CCCZH website and all interested parties are invited to take part.

Postcard

A certain familiarity with contacts with journalists who received the Chaos Computer Club Zurich with the denunciation of vulnerabilities in the Swiss Post Card , a debit card of PostFinance . Previously , these security vulnerabilities were presented to the public for the first time at the 2006 annual CCC Congress, the 23C3 . Later an article with the name Signature was cracked in the Swiss Postcard in the c't (05/07). An article in the SonntagsZeitung caused a further stir .

Hacker radio

The Hackerfunk logo

A radio show called Hackerfunk was launched by members. This is broadcast live on the first Saturday of each month on the campus radio of ETH Zurich , Radio Radius, via webstream and is also available as a web feed . Hackerfunk is Switzerland's national winner at the European Podcast Award 2008 in the non-profit category. On January 28, 2013, the moderators of the Hackerfunk submitted a membership application to the Chaos Computer Club Switzerland as an acoustic hackerspace . On June 16, 2013, Hackerfunk was accepted as a member at the ordinary general assembly.

Software Freedom Day

In 2006 and 2007 the club organized a Software Freedom Day together with LUGS , the Zurich-based Linux User Group Switzerland . Although the association is not Linux- oriented per se , the decision was made to take part and bring Linux and other free software to the people.

Computer Science Day

In 2008 , the Chaos Computer Club Zurich looked after a booth for the first time on Computer Science Day at Turbinenplatz in Zurich.

Chaos dock

The Chaosdock is a meeting that takes place in spring or autumn in its own meeting rooms, whereby the CCCZH says it would like to "intensify" the exchange of experiences among members and interested parties for a few days. Lectures and workshops serve as a starting point. For example, in 2007 inexperienced people under the guidance of a geek clock, a clock controlled by a microcontroller with a binary time display, soldered themselves and learned to further adapt the specially created software. In the absence of a meeting room, the chaos dock did not take place until autumn in 2008 and in a different location.

Chaos Singularity

The club also participates in the organization and execution of the annual Chaos Singularity , also known as CoSin for short . The CoSin took place in the Bremgarten cultural center in Bremgarten AG between 2006 and 2009 and is a Swiss congress modeled on the Chaos Communication Congress , the CCC's annual congress between Christmas and New Year , but on a much smaller scale. The aim is the exchange between all CCC members and interested parties in Switzerland. Since 2010 the CoSin no longer takes place in the Bremgarten cultural center. In 2010 it was held in a private location in Dübendorf, and since 2011 it has been held in a youth cultural institution in Biel.

Autonomous School Zurich

In 2009 the club took part in a course on surveillance at the Autonomous School in Zurich .

history

2005: On June 28th, the Chaostreff Zurich is formed as a loose group with a first meeting. From then on, people meet regularly in restaurants in downtown Zurich.

2006: Meetings in public restaurants are seen as impractical and the urge to own a club room arises. You start looking for suitable premises. There are several locations to choose from and you choose DOCK18 because of the potential synergies between art, design, media and technology groups.

On April 4th, the Chaostreff Zurich association is founded to avert financial claims from members due to association business. The statutes are designed on a grassroots basis , so that the board of directors is only given administrative and no content-related tasks. The association is understood as a pure sponsoring association, which should only provide the material framework for the activities of the members.

At the regional meeting of the CCC , which will take place on the third day of the 23C3 event on December 29, 2006 in Berlin, the association Chaostreff Zurich will be awarded the Erfastatus by voting among all experience circles.

2007: At the general assembly on January 20th, an internal vote is taken on the acceptance of the Erfastatus, which is accepted. The association is now called the Chaos Computer Club Zurich , to openly express its closeness to the Chaos Computer Club . Internally, it was also agreed to use CCCZH as the common abbreviation for it.

2012: In Bern, the CCCZH and the Chaostreffs Basel, St. Gallen and Bern (Ostermundigen) found the Chaos Computer Club Switzerland (CCC-CH) on December 15th .
