Chaoze One (* 1981 in Krefeld ), bourgeois Jan Hertel , is a socially critical rapper and author who lives in Mannheim .

biography

In 2000 he released his first demo album Neue Kreise under his then name Chaoze MC . The album Rapression followed in 2003 , on which other artists such as Deadly T , Irie Révoltés also appeared as guests and which was his first album released under Twisted Chords Records , where he has been under contract since Rapression .

In 2004 he released his EP Koppstoff and made a video for the track of the same name. In 2007 he released his current album Fame (Italian for hunger) together with Lotta C. He participates in several projects of left-wing musicians, for example Perspectives with Irie Révoltés , Rhyme Guerilla and others. a. with LJ , Callya and Nic Knatterton , and Baila Contra Pobreza with Lotta C and Microphone Mafia . In 2009 he released the crew album La Resistance with Al Dente Records, the title serving as both Crewname and album name. In addition to his rap parts, Chaoze One is responsible for half of the “beats” published on the album in the project, which consists of members from Anarchist Academy, Callya, Meditias, Microphone Mafia, Lotta C and Chaoze One itself .

In 2011 the musician traveled with the NGO Viva Con Agua de Sankt Pauli e. V. and the graffiti artist Rebelzer to Uganda. The aim of the trip was to visit several project areas in which new drinking water wells could be built with donations from the NGO in cooperation with Welthungerhilfe . On this trip Chaoze One got to know the musicians Bernhard Fischer, Nessejje Julia Mildred and Ricko and spontaneously recorded the song Youganda with them , for which a music video was shot in the capital Kampala . Julia Drache was the director.

The taz ( Die Tageszeitung ) listed him on April 13, 2012 in the article Gangsta under a brown flag as an example of right-wing extremist hip-hop. After numerous complaints about the article, the claim in the online version of the text was removed and a notice with a correction was added. In addition, a counter-statement was printed in the following Saturday edition of the taz. On May 8, 2012, the newspaper published a portrait of the rapper, which mainly deals with his commitment to the Viva con Agua initiative .

In 2016, after a long creative break, Chaoze One took part in the public discussion with a video on the topics of right-wing terrorism and everyday racism. The song Das Bit Totschlag refers to a song that Die Goldenen Zitronen published in 1994 in response to the racist pogroms and arson attacks on accommodation for refugees. Chaoze One worked with the Swiss Tanuki Soul Studios for this. For the video he himself worked behind the camera, as an actor and as a director.

In a research published by ARD and Süddeutsche Zeitung in August 2019 under the title Druck von Rechts , a concert by Chaoze One that he played in the Palatinate town of Kusel in June 2017 also appears . In their article, the journalists chronicle attempts by the AfD party to intimidate cultural institutions in Germany. After the concert in June 2017 and August 2017, AfD politician Joachim Paul made two small inquiries to the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate. Chaoze One then offered in his book Spielverderber, my life between Rap & Antifa to the school where Paul works as a teacher, to become a sponsor for a school without racism. Journalists from the taz had discovered in May that Joachim Paul was working under the pseudonym "Karl Ludwig Sand" for the magazine here & now - radically right-wing magazine .
