The Chaparrastique or Volcán de San Miguel Bosotlan is a stratovolcano in El Salvador . It is located in the department of San Miguel about 11 kilometers southwest of the city of San Miguel , a few kilometers southeast of the caldera of the older Chinameca volcano .

Chaparrastique means shrub landscape on warm earth. The share of plants in erosion control is assessed by the locals as essential, which leads to the concept of landscape-changing plants. On the Chaparrastique is up to the timberline coffee grown and grown agaves . An endemic subspecies of the Laucharassaris , Aulacorhynchus prasinus volcanius, lives on the slopes of the Chaparrastique .

The central crater has a diameter of about 800 meters and numerous places where lava emerges from time to time. Since the founding of San Miguel in 1530, the emergence of lava flows from cracks in the volcano has been observed eight times, including on July 20, 1844 and 1855.

The shape of its symmetrical basaltandesite cone is one of the most regularly developed in Central America . It is one of the six most active volcanoes in El Salvador. There have been 26 eruptions recorded over the past 304 years. The most violent took place in 1787. In 2006, increased seismic activity was detected in the area around the volcano .

President Mauricio Funes warned people on the radio of a possible surge in seismic activity.
