Chari-Baguirmi is a region of Chad and corresponds to a large part of the former prefecture of the same name, the northern part of which has been a separate region of Hadjer-Lamis since 2002 . The capital of the region is Massenya .
geography
Chari-Baguirmi is located in the west of the country on the border with Cameroon and extends over an area of 45,000 km². The region is named after the river Chari (Shari), which flows through it, and after the historical Baguirmi empire in the area. In the region are the Plaine de Massenya , an important wetland area of the Sahel and which has been a protected area of the Ramsar Convention since 2008 . Smaller parts of the Plaines d'inondation du Logone et les dépressions Toupouri are located in the region, another protected area of the Ramsar Convention.
