Logone Oriental ( Logone Ost ) is a region of Chad and corresponds to the former prefecture of the same name. Their capital is Doba . The region had 779,339 inhabitants at the 2009 census.

Logone Oriental has an area of ​​28,035 km², is located in the extreme south of the country and borders Cameroon and the Central African Republic . The region is named after the Logone Oriental river , an alternative name for the Pendé .

population

The most important ethnic group in Logone Oriental are the Ngambay ( Sara ); Gor , Mboum and Ngoulay also live here .

economy

There are oil deposits in the region which are being exploited by a consortium of Exxon Mobil , Chevron Texaco and Petronas as part of an ecologically and human rights controversial project funded by the World Bank . A pipeline leads from Doba to the Cameroonian port of Kribi .

The population in Logone Oriental meanwhile lives mainly from subsistence farming and cotton cultivation.
