Charles Lawton Jr. (born April 6, 1904 in Los Angeles , † July 11, 1965 in Pacific Palisades , Los Angeles) was an American cameraman .

Life

Charles Lawton Jr. began his professional career as assistant camera to George J. Folsey in 1926 . From 1937 he was a cameraman at MGM , where he shot, among other things, The Marx Brothers in the department store (1941). In 1945 he moved to Columbia Pictures , where he was henceforth under contract. In the following years he worked for Orson Welles ' film noir Die Lady von Shanghai (1947), shot the Maugham film Purgatory (1953) in 3D and staged a number of westerns with Randolph Scott , such as: B. Um Kopf und Kragen (1957) or On Your Own (1959). He was also employed three times as a cameraman for director John Ford, for example for the films With Body and Soul (1955), The Last Hurray (1958) and Two Rode Together ( Two Rode Together , 1961). His work includes more than 110 film and television productions.

He died in 1965 at the age of 61 and was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale , California . His wife Irene (1910–1970) survived him by five years.
