Charles Lederer

Charles Lederer (born December 31, 1910 in New York City , New York , † March 5, 1976 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

Charles Lederer, nephew of actress Marion Davies , first worked as a journalist. Through the mediation of his friend Ben Hecht he found the film and worked there as a dialogue writer. Participation in the very successful comedy The Front Page paved the way for him to become a screenwriter. He wrote highly successful screwball comedies like His Girl for a Special Occasion or Darling, I'm Getting Younger , often in collaboration with co-authors, but he also wrote screenplays in the film noir genre. His later films received less attention, as did a few directorial work.

In 1949 he married the actress Anne Shirley . The marriage lasted until his death. They had a child together.
