Charles Stuart, 12th Lord Blantyre (born December 21, 1818 in Lennoxlove , East Lothian , † December 15, 1900 in Erskine House , Renfrewshire ) was a British nobleman and politician .

He was the second son of Robert Stuart, 11th Lord Blantyre from his marriage to Fanny Rodney, a granddaughter of the 1st Baron Rodney . Since his older brother Alexander had already died in 1814, Charles bore the courtesy title of Master of Blantyre as his father's apparent marriage from birth . When his father died in 1830, he inherited his title of nobility as Lord Blantyre .

In 1836 he bought an officer's license as an ensign and lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards . In 1845 he was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Renfrewshire and in 1864 Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire . From 1850 to 1892 he was a Scottish Representative Peer member of the British House of Lords .

On October 4, 1843, he married Lady Evelyn Leveson-Gower (1825-1869), daughter of George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland . With her he had a son and five daughters:

  • Walter Stuart, Master of Blantyre (1851–1895), captain of the British Army;
  • Hon. Mary Stuart (* 1845);
  • Hon. Ellen Stuart (1846–1927) ⚭ 1864 Sir David Baird, 3rd Baronet;
  • Hon. Evelyn Stuart (1848–1888) ⚭ 1871 Archibald Kennedy, 3rd Marquess of Ailsa ;
  • Hon. Gertrude Stuart (1849–1935) ⚭ 1875 William Henry Gladstone (1840–1891), MP, son of William Ewart Gladstone ;
  • Hon. Blanche Stuart (1867–1868).

Since his only son died childless before him, his title of nobility expired on his death in 1900.
