Charles Victor Naudin
Charles Victor Naudin (born August 14, 1815 in Autun , † March 18, 1899 in Antibes ) was a French biologist and botanist . He is considered one of the masterminds of genetics and evolutionary theory . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Naudin ”.

Naudin received his doctorate in Paris in 1842 with Augustin François César Prouvençal de Saint-Hilaire with a thesis on nightshade plants .
In 1852 Naudin published an essay " Philosophical considerations on species and diversity" (French: "Considérations philosophique sur l'espèce et la variété") by making hybrids responsible for the emergence of new species. After Charles Darwin published his work “ On the Origin of Species ” in 1859 , the French biologist Joseph Decaisne accused him of having discovered key elements of natural selection before him. In a traditional letter to Joseph Dalton Hooker , Darwin contradicted this assumption, since he could not find the words "natural selection" in Naudin's work.
In 1856 Naudin described several types of pumpkin , probably including the zucchini for the first time .
After the death of Gustave Adolphe Thuret , Naudin took over the management of the Jardin botanique de la villa Thuret , a botanical garden on the Côte d'Azur in Antibes in 1875 .
In 1887, together with Ferdinand von Mueller , Naudin published a handbook on the acclimatization and selection of exotic plants, a book that occupied a special place in the literature of French colony development.
