Charles Willy Kayser

Charles Willy Kayser , born in Charles Wilhelm Kaiser , (born January 28, 1881 in Metz , German Empire , † July 10, 1942 in Berlin , German Empire ) was a German actor and film director .

Life

Before he was 17, Kayser attended the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna , where he received vocal training. He made his debut as a lyric baritone in 1898 and appeared for the first time in Berlin six months later.

He played in the subject of the youthful hero at the Raimund Theater in Vienna, but also in Karlsbad , New York , Hanover , Breslau , Riga and Amsterdam . From 1911 to 1914 he worked at the Burgtheater . In 1914 he was appointed director of the German Comedy Theater in Riga. Immediately after the outbreak of the First World War , he was arrested by the Russian authorities for alleged espionage activities and taken to Siberia.

At the beginning of 1918 he escaped from his captivity and made his way to Berlin. Kayser's film career began that same year. He has been used as a versatile supporting actor in a very large number of productions. Mostly he embodied personalities of rank such as officers, counts and in the film Waterloo 1929 even the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Kayser also tried his hand at film directing a few times.

From 1926 to 1936 there was the Charles-Willy-Kayser-Lichtspiele at Gasteiner Straße 26 in Berlin .
