Chaunaca is a town in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Chaunaca is the central place of the canton Chaunaca in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sucre in the province of Oropeza . The village is at an altitude of 2874  m at the confluence of the Río Tomoyo and Río Ravelo , which is called " Río Roque " downstream and flows to the Río Pilcomayo .

Chaunaca is east of the Altiplano in the Bolivian Cordillera Central . The climate is a moderate altitude climate and a typical time of day climate , in which the average temperature fluctuation is greater during the day than during the year.

Chaunaca is 40 kilometers west of Sucre , the capital of the department.

The 976 kilometer long highway Ruta 6 leads through Sucre, which leads from the Bolivian lowlands on the border with Paraguay in the east via Padilla to Sucre and on to Oruro in the highlands. From Sucre, the road leads past the city's airport in a north-westerly direction, and after 22 kilometers a dirt road branches off from Ruta 6 in a south-westerly direction near the village of Punilla . After eighteen kilometers it reaches Chaunaca and continues west to Potolo . From Chaunaca there is also a side road in a southerly direction to Maragua .
