The canton Chaunaca is an administrative district in the department Chuquisaca in the South American Andean state Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The canton of Chaunaca is one of thirteen cantons of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sucre in the province of Oropeza and is located in the northwestern part of the district. It borders in the northwest on the Potosí department , in the west on the canton Potolo , in the south on the canton Maragua , in the east on the canton Mamahuasi , and in the northeast on the municipality Poroma .

The canton extends between 18 ° 55 'and 19 ° 00' south latitude and 65 ° 23 'and 65 ° 29' west latitude, it measures up to ten kilometers from north to south and from west to east. The canton consists of seventeen localities ( localidades ), the central place is Chaunaca with 188 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southwestern part of the canton.

Chaunaca is east of the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Central . The climate is a moderate altitude climate and a typical time of day climate , in which the average temperature fluctuation is greater during the day than during the year.

The annual average temperature in the valleys of the region is around 16 ° C (see Sucre climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate between 14 ° C in June / July and 17 ° C in October / November. The annual precipitation is about 700 mm and has five arid months from May to September with monthly values ​​below 25 mm, and a significant humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation between 125 and 150 mm.
