The canton of Mamahuasi is an administrative district in the Chuquisaca department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The canton of Mamahuasi is one of fourteen cantons of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Sucre in the province of Oropeza and is located in the central western part of the district. It borders the Municipio Poroma to the northeast and north , the Canton of Chaunaca to the west, the Canton of Maragua to the southwest , and the Canton of San Sebastian to the south and east .
The canton extends between 18 ° 54 'and 19 ° 04' south latitude and 65 ° 19 'and 65 ° 24' west latitude, it measures from north to south up to twenty kilometers and from west to east up to ten kilometers. The canton consists of eleven localities ( localidades ), the central place is Mama Huasi with 66 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northern part of the canton.

The canton of Mamahuasi is located east of the Bolivian Altiplano on the western edge of the Cordillera Central and is bounded to the west by the Cordillera de los Frailes . The climate is a moderate altitude climate and a typical time of day climate , in which the average temperature fluctuation is greater during the day than during the year.
The annual average temperature in the valleys of the region is around 16 ° C (see Sucre climate diagram), the monthly averages fluctuate between 14 ° C in June / July and 17 ° C in October / November. The annual precipitation is about 700 mm and has five arid months from May to September with monthly values below 25 mm, and a significant humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation between 125 and 150 mm.

Due to the historical population development, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Sucre 61.6 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
