Meaning of the name
The word che is a Spanish interjection that is used to grab the listener's attention. The word sudaka is used pejoratively in Spanish for immigrants from South America. With the name of their band, the four South American immigrants set an example against xenophobia and racism .
Band history
The band Che Sudaka was founded in Barcelona in 2002 and today consists of the four musicians Leo, Kachafaz, Jota and Cheko, who arrived in Barcelona around 2000 as illegal immigrants, where they initially worked as street musicians in daily changing projects and line-ups . For the benefit sampler La Colifata - siempre fui loco , produced by the French-Spanish musician Manu Chao in 2002 , the musicians recorded the song Sin Papeles (“without papers”; Spanish term for illegal immigrants) for the first time under the name Che Sudaka also appeared on their first own album, Trippie Town , released a year later . The album title is a reference to the Plaça de George Orwell in the Barrio Gótico of Barcelona, known as the “Plaza del Trippie” , which at the time was the center of the alternative scene and a meeting place for immigrant artists and musicians. Trippie Town was released in 2003 on the Barcelona label K-Industria and was also distributed throughout Europe. First appearances abroad followed, first in France, later - after receiving Spanish residence papers - also in Germany and other European countries. K-Industria also released the following albums Alerta Bihotza (alerta: Spanish for alarm and bihotza: euskera for heart) and Mirando el mundo al revés (Spanish: "looking at the world the other way around"), and the band consolidated themselves with extensive tours throughout Europe as a reference for the Barcelona mestizo scene. In response to the crisis in the record industry and the resulting lack of support from record companies, the band started doing it yourself in 2009 and founded their own record label, Cavernicola Records . In October 2009, her album Tudo é Possible (a combination of words from several languages for “Everything is possible”) was initially released in collaboration with the Kasba Music label. The following albums 10 (on the occasion of their tenth anniversary), 1111 Lives (a live album recorded in the Budapest Club A38 in 2013) and Hoy (Spanish: "Today") were each released on Cavernicola Records in their own production and were sold internationally through various distributors brought. As a live band, Che Sudaka has given almost 1500 concerts in more than 40 countries and on all five continents. Today the band is an integral part of the international music scene and is invited to the most important international festivals (such as WOMAD Festival, Sziget Festival and Glastonbury Festival ).
style
Che Sudaka combine rebellious cumbia , party-happy rumba , ska with a Latino touch and punk attitude in their music . In addition to their own cultura popular , the four South Americans find their musical roots in legendary bands such as The Clash , Mano Negra or Los Fabulosos Cadillacs . Their expressive and socially critical texts, with which they fight against cultural, ideological and physical boundaries and defend human coexistence against political and media divisions, have made the band the figurehead of an attitude towards life and a cultural counter-movement, the link of a globally networked family. According to their own statements, the band sees itself as a medium for collective consciousness and uses their music as a “weapon” in a non-violent struggle for a solidary society. Music is the means to an end, the universally understandable language for your messages.
