Cheick Oumar Doucouré (born January 8, 2000 in Bamako ) is a Malian football player who has been under contract with the French first division club RC Lens since January 2018 . The midfielder has been a Malian national player since November 2018 .
Career

Cheick Doucouré was born in Mali and moved with his family to Ivory Coast as a child with the prospect of a better life . There he started playing football at the age of eight. After playing in several academies in neighboring countries, he went back to Mali at the age of 16 to join his hometown club Real Bamako . In January 2018 he switched to the French second division club RC Lens . Initially, he played for the reserve team of the northern French and did not make a single appearance in the first team in the remainder of the 2017/18 season . He made his debut on July 27, 2018 in a 2-0 away win over US Orléans . In the 2018/19 season he became a regular midfielder . He scored his first goal for Lens on November 30 in a 2-2 draw against FC Lorient . Doucouré came this season in 31 league games in which he scored two goals and assisted in two. In the following 2019/20 season , he played 21 league games in which he scored one goal and one assist . As second in the table, he rose to the top French league with Sang et Or .
National team
In October 2018, Doucouré was nominated for the first time in the squad of the Malian national team . He made his debut on November 17, 2018 in a 1-0 victory in the qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 against Gabon .
