Chevalier-Montrachet
Chevalier-Montrachet is a wine location classified as Grand Cru on the Côte d'Or in French Burgundy . It is located in the municipality of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune . The Chevalier-Montrachet site has had its own appellation since July 31, 1937 and, with a size of 7.47 hectares, is one of the smaller appellation in France. Only white wine is produced . Of the total of 5 Montrachet locations, Chevalier-Montrachet is the highest on the slope and, together with the Montrachet, enjoys the best reputation. Below is the Grand Cru Montrachet and the Premier Cru Lage Les Caillerets . In the south, but already in the area of the municipality of Chassagne-Montrachet, the Premier Cru Lage En Remilly follows.
Climate and geology
The Chevalier-Montrachet vineyard is located on a 10 percent steep slope at an altitude of 265-300 m above sea level . The situation is usually spared late frosts. The climate is assigned to the Burgundian transitional climate, in which continental influences predominate over maritime influences. The Chardonnay thrives excellently in a southeast orientation.

The bottom of the Montrachet consists in the lower area of a thin layer of brown limestone - weathered debris and merges into Rendzina further up the slope . The vines must drive their roots into the base from the geological age of Bathonium .
Wine
The white wines of the Grand Cru Lage are made from the Chardonnay grape variety. The natural alcohol content of the white wines must be at least 12% by volume, chaptalization is allowed - as everywhere in Burgundy. The minimum must weight is 187 g / l. The basic yield is 40 hectoliters per hectare, this may be exceeded by a maximum of 20%.
Production quantity
In 2008, a total of 7.47 hectares were declared under the name Chevalier-Montrachet. A total of 311 hectoliters of white wine were produced. This corresponds to approximately 41,000 bottles.

Manufacturer and owner
In contrast to Bordeaux , the vineyards are very small-scale due to the use of inheritance. The largest owner with 2.06 ha in 2008 was Bouchard Père et Fils (2.54 ha). This was followed by the Domaine Leflaive (1.99 ha), Louis Jadot (0.52 ha), Louis Latour (0.52 ha), Jean Chartron (0.4675 ha in the so-called Clos des Chevaliers), Château de Puligny-Montrachet ( 0.25 ha), Michel Colin-Deléger (0.16 ha), Vincent Girardin (0.16 ha), Domaine Jacques Prieur (0.14 ha), Fontaine-Gagnard (0.09 ha), Jean-Marc Blain -Gagnard (0.08 ha) and Vincent Dancer (0.10 ha).
