Bâtard-Montrachet is a wine location classified as Grand Cru on the Côte d'Or in French Burgundy . It is located in the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune . Bâtard-Montrachet has had its own appellation since July 31, 1937 and, with a size of 11.86 hectares, is one of the smaller appellation in France. Only white wine is produced . 6.02 hectares of this are in the municipal area of ​​Puligny; the remaining 5.84 hectares belong to the municipality of Chassagne. Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet is located north and east of the Grand Cru location Bâtard-Montrachet. Further south there is Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet and in the west the most famous of all Grand Cru sites on the Côte de Beaune, the Montrachet .

In 1976, a 1973 Bâtard-Montrachet from Ramonet took part in the famous Paris wine jury .

Climate and geology

The Bâtard-Montrachet vineyard is located on a slope at an altitude of 230-265 m above sea level . The situation is usually spared late frosts. The climate is assigned to the Burgundian transitional climate , in which continental influences predominate over maritime ones. The Chardonnay thrives excellently in a southeast orientation.

The bottom of the Bâtard-Montrachet consists of a thick layer of brown limestone - weathered debris . The vines must drive their roots into the base from the geological age of Bathonium .

The white wines of the Grand Cru Lage are made from the Chardonnay grape variety. The natural alcohol content of the white wines must be at least 11.5% by volume.
