Chliwtschany ( Ukrainian Хлівчани ; Russian Хлевчаны Chlewtschany , Polish Chlewczany ) is a village in the northwest of the Ukrainian Lviv Oblast with about 2000 inhabitants (2001).

Chlivtschany is located in the southwest of the Rajon Sokal on the bank of the 34 km long Bolotnja ( Болотня ), 41 km southwest of the Rajon center Sokal and about 80 km northwest of the Oblast capital Lviv .

The village is the administrative center of the district council of the same name, to which the village of Tjahliw ( Тяглів ) with about 330 inhabitants also belongs. The former German settlement of Bruckenthal is also in the municipality, as is the village of Choronów / Choroniw , which was incorporated after 1945 .

history

The village was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1559 and was initially in the Bełz Voivodeship as part of the aristocratic republic of Poland . From 1772 to 1918 it belonged to the Austrian crown land of Galicia under its Polish name Chliwczany / Chlewczany .

After the end of the First World War , the place became part of Poland (in the voivodeship Lemberg , Powiat Rawa Ruska , Gmina Bruckenthal ), was occupied by the Soviet Union from September 1939 during the Second World War and by Germany from summer 1941 to 1944 . Here the village was incorporated into the district of Galicia .

After the end of the war, the village was added to the Soviet Union , where the Ukrainian SSR came into being. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it has been part of independent Ukraine.
