Choi In-hun (born April 13, 1936 in Hoeryŏng , North Hamgyŏng Province, † July 23, 2018 in Goyang ) was a South Korean writer .
Life
Choi In-hun was born in 1936 when Korea was under Japanese rule . With the outbreak of the Korean War , his family fled to the south. From 1952 he studied law at Seoul National University , but dropped out and took six years of service in the military.
During this time he made his debut as a writer with the story of Club GRAY and Raul's story , which were published in 1959 in the magazine "Freie Literatur" (Chayu munhak). In 1960 the novel Der Platz was published , which immediately became a great success. This is followed by his four great novels The Gray Man (1963–1964), Journey to the West (1966), A Day in the Life of the Writer Kubo (1966–1972), Taifun (1973).
In addition to novels and short stories, Choi has also written plays, reviews of current developments in Korean literature and culture, and essays. From 1977 to 2001 he taught creative writing at the Seoul Institute of the Arts before retiring.
