Chorly ( Ukrainian Хорли ; Russian Хорлы ) is a village on the Black Sea in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson with about 900 inhabitants.
The harbor town was founded on the land owned by Sophie von Falz-Fein, born. Knauff (1835-1919), mother of the founder of Askanija-Nowa , Friedrich von Falz-Fein , founded in 1897 and until 1958 carried the official name Port Chorly (Порт Хорли).
The village is located on the Horkyj Kut peninsula ( Горький кут ) in the Karkinitska Bay , a Ramsar area in Ukraine, which is connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus . While the port facilities are half-ruined, the village is developing into a popular holiday destination, which, through the combination of steppe and marine air masses, offers favorable conditions for improving the respiratory system.
Chorly located 20 km south of the Rajonzentrum Kalantschak near the Isthmus of Perekop on the border with Crimea . The oblast capital Kherson is about 100 km northwest of the village.
Between 1931 and 1939 the village was also the district center of the Chorly district of the same name.
