This list includes the currently 33 Ramsar areas of Ukraine with a total area of ​​744,651 hectares.

Ramsar sites are closed after the 1971 Ramsar Convention protected wetlands of international importance, according to the intention of the international international treaty in particular as a habitat for water and wading birds .

According to the Ramsar Convention, Ukraine understands wetlands as "moorland and swamp areas, bogs or water areas - whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, standing or flowing, with fresh, brackish or salt water, including such marine areas whose depth is not 6 meters exceeds ".

Basics

The agreement is named after the place where the contract was concluded, the Iranian city of Ramsar , and is one of the oldest international agreements on environmental protection .

After approval by the Ukrainian parliament on October 29, 1996, Ukraine renewed its membership after leaving the Soviet Union , having already ratified the treaty in December 1991 , and the convention including the amendments (additions) of the Extraordinary Conference of the Contracting Parties in Regina, Canada, 1987 ( Regina Amendments , which came into force May 1, 1994).
