Kazantyp ( Ukrainian and Russian Казантип , Tatar Qazantıp) is in the Sea of Azov outstanding Cape and forms the northernmost point of the Kerch Peninsula on the peninsula of Crimea in Ukraine .

The name comes from the Crimean Tatar name "Qazan tüp" and means "bottom of a cauldron" with reference to its concave profile.

Cape Kazantyp is located about 10 km northeast of the city of Shcholkine , 60 km west of Kerch and 150 km northeast of Simferopol and administratively belongs to the Lenine Rajon of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea .

The cape is the northern tip of a peninsula and separates the Kazantyp Bay from the Arabat Bay . The northern part of the peninsula is connected to the southern part by a narrow sandy isthmus about 1.5 km wide.

The mostly steppe- covered cape with a diameter of about 3–4 km has a maximum height of 106.5 m and an average height of 30–40 m. The height of the ground is 20–30 m above sea level. On the cape there is a lighthouse and on the eastern half of the cape are the ruins of a settlement from the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC. Chr.

A 4.5 km² nature reserve (Kazantyp Natur Sapowednik ) was established in Kazantyp as early as 1998 , and since 2004 the Cape Kasantyp cliff complex with an area of ​​251  ha has been a nature reserve under the Ramsar Convention .
