The Berda (Ukrainian and Russian Берда ) is a 130 km long tributary to the Azov Sea in the Ukrainian Oblast of Zaporizhia .
The river has its source at a height of 250 m in the Azov highlands , then flows through the southeast of Zaporizhia Oblast, forms the border with Donetsk Oblast for a short distance and flows into the Sea of Azov near the village of Novopetrivka near Berdjansk . The upper two thirds of the Berda are characterized by narrow valleys, small waterfalls, a high current speed and strong fluctuations in the water level. The lower third of the river is wide, swampy and interrupted by many lakes. Its mouth is a Ramsar area .
The river has a gradient of 2.1 m / km and has a catchment area of 1750 km². Some of the water from the Berda is used for water supply and irrigation.
