Chris Pitsiokos

Chris Pitsiokos (* 1990 ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( alto saxophone , synthesizer ).

Live and act

From the age of three, Pitsiokos learned to play the saxophone on a C Melody saxophone that his parents gave him as a gift. During his time at high school in Massachusetts, he took lessons from Fred Hemke and played in a jazz band. He then attended Kenyon College in Ohio and received a scholarship to study at Columbia University .

Since then he has played in the New York jazz scene a. a. with Alex Blake , Arturo O'Farrill , Chris Hunter , Casey Benjamin , Daro Behroozi, Brian Chase and Bob Crusoe. After a short period around 2010 in which he dealt with electronic music, he turned to free jazz and improvised music. In 2012 he recorded the album Unplanned Obsolescence (ugEXPLODE) with Weasel Walter . In 2015 he released the albums Drawn & Quartered (One Hand Records, with Weasel Walter), the solo album Oblivion / Ecstasy , also Paroxysm (Carrier Records), a duo with the experimental electronics engineer Philip White, and the trio album Gordion Twine (New Atlantis, with Max Johnson , Kevin Shea ). He also works with the Dre Hocevar Large Ensemble (with Nate Wooley , Joe Morris , Lester St. Louis , Bram De Looze , Philip White), his own trio (with Max Johnson and Kevin Shea), The Undermine Trio (with Brandon Lopez , Tyshawn Sorey ) and the Chris Pitsiokos Quartet (with Brandon Seabrook , Tim Dahl , Weasel Walter). With Susana Santos Silva and Torbjörn Zetterberg , he released the album Child of Illusion on Clean Feed Records in 2018 .

Pitsiokos lives in New York City. In his music he combines elements of no wave and noise with jazz and contemporary music.
