The Christaturm is a 2170  m above sea level. A. high summit in the Wilder Kaiser in Tyrol , which drops to the east into a striking rock face made of Wetterstein limestone. The mountain is located in the municipality of Kirchdorf in Tirol .

location

The Christaturm is an imposing rock tower when viewed from the east, with walls up to 200 meters high that slopes down into the stone channel . This separates the summit on the east side from the Predigtstuhl . To the west is the Totenkirchl , which can be reached from the Christaturm via the Winklerscharte and behind it a large rock basin, the Hohe Winkel . In the north there is the meat bank after the Fleischbankscharte , to the south the Hintere Karlspitze follows .

Routes

The east side of the Christ Tower is one of the famous climbing mountains in the northern Limestone Alps . Here are climbing routes that have made alpine history.

Today's normal route (mostly used as a descent) runs above the Steinerne Rinne just below the Ellmauer Tor (north side), branching off west of the marked route, initially over a scree field on a path (approach) to the east face of the Hinteren Karlspitze and there through a gorge-like channel (Herrweg, markings and bolts, II, longer point III +) up to Grasschrofen and easier walking terrain and over a notch on the south side past the Christaturm on its back and branching off from the path to the meat bank to the Christascharte . The ascent to the summit (III) begins here, and the summit cross is reached via a ramp and a channel (bolts). Time required from Ellmauer Tor to the summit about an hour and a quarter.

Alternatively, the entrance to the summit ramp can also be reached from the Hinteren Karlspitze in difficulty level II. To do this, follow the ridge northwest from the summit cross of the Hinteren Karlspitze in the direction of Winklerscharte (ridge towards Totenkirchl ) until clear traces of foot traffic lead over a scree terrace and a rocky channel down to the connecting route Fleischbank - Winklerscharte, via which and via a junction the Christascharte is reached (initially via Rocks, the rest of the way from below the Christascharte on a good path). Time required from the summit cross of the Hinteren Karlspitze to the summit about an hour and a quarter.
