Christian Ernst von Oelsen (born November 17, 1729 at Gut Gemauerthof , Courland ; † November 15, 1787 in Mitau ) was a Kurland state politician and senior councilor in the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia .

Career

Christian Ernst von Oelsen studied at the Albertus University of Königsberg from 1747 and at the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt from 1749 . Since 1763 he was the entails owner of Gemauerthof, in 1763 he was sent as envoy of the Courland Parliament to Frederick the Great (1712–1786) to promote the recognition of Duke Ernst Johann von Biron (1690–1772). From 1763 to 1769 he was Doblenscher captain in Mitau, after which he held the office of captain of Tuckum until 1772 . From 1772 to 1786 he was captain of Mitau and at the same time castle commandant . In 1786 he was elected Land Marshal, then he was Oberburggraf and finally from 1786 to 1787 Landhofmeister .

His father was the Hessen-Kasselscher captain and master of the brick yard Friedrich Johann von Oelsen (1686–1763), who was married to Agnesa Juliane von Grotthus (1707–1783) from the house of Schwitten (Kurland). Christian Ernst was the eldest son, his younger brother was the assessor Friedrich Johann von Oelsen (1737–1809) who was married to Countess Anna von Keyserling (1732–1793). In 1767 Christian Ernst married Elisabeth Charlotte von Nettelhorst from the Pahzen (Kurland) house on Santen. With her he had four sons and a daughter:
