Christian Franke-long Mach (* 24. June 1992 in Magdeburg as a Christian Franke ) is a German politician ( Alliance 90 / The Greens ). From June 2016 to June 2018, together with Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz, he was state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Sachsen-Anhalt .

Life and work

Christian Franke-Langmach grew up in the Altmark in the north of Saxony-Anhalt . After graduating from high school in Salzwedel in 2011, he studied political science and economics at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg . In 2015 he worked for Rebecca Harms , the chairwoman of the Greens / EFA in the European Parliament . From 2016 to 2018 he was the full-time state chairman of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in Saxony-Anhalt.

In 2018 he announced a temporary break from professional politics in order to be able to devote more time to his family and his professional career:

“I have great respect for the work that our members of the state parliament do and for the amount of time that goes into it. I also had this experience as the state chairman. And I also see the personal hardships that come with this work for the family and for myself. It is therefore not an option for me in my current phase of life to continue on the path of professional policy uninterruptedly. "

Political career

Christian Franke-Langmach gained his first political experience in 2008 in the youth council of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel. During his school days he was district student representative of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and a member of the state student council of Saxony-Anhalt . In 2008 he founded a local group of the Green Youth , the youth organization of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, in Salzwedel. The group was particularly active against factory farming. He was a member of the board of the state association of Saxony-Anhalt from 2009 to 2010 as an assessor and again from 2011 to 2013 as treasurer. During this time he mainly took care of organizational challenges and the financial situation of the youth association.

Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen joined Christian Franke-Langmach in 2009 and was elected as the political spokesman for lesbian and gay politics in the same year. Since 2011 he has been speaker of the country Section "Queer Green Saxony-Anhalt", which also with the concerns of LGBTI tackles (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and inter *).

In the state elections in 2011 , he ran in constituency 1 (Salzwedel) and ranked 18th on the state list. He was the youngest candidate of all parties in Saxony-Anhalt. The Greens entered the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt with 7.1 percent. In the constituency of Christian Franke-Langmach, Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen got 7.7 percent, despite the otherwise weaker results in rural regions, a better second vote result than in the overall result.

From 2012 to 2016 he was spokesman for the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel district association of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. Since July 2016 he has been a member of the district board as an assessor.

Christian Franke-Langmach was a candidate for election to the 18th German Bundestag in 2013 . He ran in constituency 66 (Altmark) and in 6th place on the state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. In the state elections on March 13, 2016  , he ran again in constituency 1 (Salzwedel) and also in 10th place on the state list. Since the Greens moved into the state parliament with only 5.2 percent, he himself was not mandated.

He is u. a. Member of the "Citizens 'Initiative against the Arneburg Hard Coal Power Plant", the "Citizens' Initiative against the Altmark CO2 Repository", the Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany and the Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany .

City councilor of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel

Christian Franke-Langmach has been a city councilor in the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel since the 2014 local elections. He belongs to the Greens / Citizens Association and is responsible for social affairs, education, finance and economic development. In the aftermath of the mayoral election in 2015, he uncovered election glitches, whereupon the city council declared that the runoff election was partially invalid. He fights against the privatization of the urban forest "Bürgerholz" on the Green Belt .

State chairman of BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN Saxony-Anhalt

On June 18, 2016, he was elected as the successor to Sebastian Lüdecke as the new state chairman of the Greens in Saxony-Anhalt with over 80 percent of the votes of the party congress delegates . Together with the nurse Susan Sziborra-Seidlitz he forms the new dual leadership of the party. After his election, he took a clear position against the AfD . As party chairman Christian Franke-Langmach was also a member of the coalition committee and was thus involved in the legislation of the state of Saxony-Anhalt through the joint government of the CDU, SPD and the Greens in Saxony-Anhalt. Above all, he campaigned for a political upgrading of rural areas and a tolerant and open society.
