Christian Friedrich Meyer (born May 24, 1748 in Berlin ; † 1834 ) was a royal Prussian war and domain councilor , forestry councilor, landowner and naturalist.

Life

Christian Friedrich Meyer was a trainee lawyer from 1775 to 1776 and an assessor at the Kurmärkischen War and Domain Chamber in Berlin.

From 1778 to 1787 he worked as a war and domain councilor at the war and domain chamber deputation in Hamm, which at that time was still subordinate to the chamber in Kleve , and then after the reorganization until 1790 at the now independent war and domain chamber (KDK) for the county of Mark in Hamm. As a departmental councilor, he was responsible for forestry and forest management and was dismissed in grace in 1791 at his own request with an annual pension of 150 Reichstalers .

In 1788, through his marriage to Elisabeth Sophia Friederike, née Zahn, he became the owner of the Brockhausen estate near Unna .

Meyer was director of the "Westphalian economic partnership in Hamm". Later he describes himself as co-director of the “economic society for the improvement of the economy, arts and trade in Westphalia”.

Christian Friedrich Meyer founded the "Westphälische Naturforschende Gesellschaft zu Brockhausen" in 1798, for which the terms "Naturforschende Gesellschaft Westphalens", "Gesellschaft Naturforschender Freunde Westphalens" and "Königlich-Prussisch-Westfphälische Naturforschende Gesellschaft" were used.

As a member he could u. a. Friedrich Justin Bertuch , Ludwig Wilhelm Cramer , Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (honorary diploma from December 12, 1798) win. In his accompanying letter to Goethe, he referred to the recommendation of Johann Georg Lenz . After only two publications in 1798 and 1805, evidence of the continued existence of this scientific association was missing from 1806.

Around 1825 Christian Friedrich Meyer had his residence in Berlin.

Meyer was a member of the Braunschweig-Lüneburg Agricultural Society in Celle , the Mathematical-Physical Society in Erfurt, the Imperial Free Economic Society in Saint Petersburg and the Brandenburg Economic Society in Potsdam and in 1797 became a member of the Hamburg Society for the Advancement of the Arts and Useful Trades . He was an honorary member of the Mineralogical Society in Jena and in 1805 became a member of the Regensburg Botanical Society .

Christian Friedrich Meyer was a full member of the Churfürstlich Mayntzischen Academy of Useful Sciences and was probably Christian Friedrich Meyer , who was elected to the Leopoldina on December 22, 1798 with the academic surname Diophanes IV. (Matriculation no. 1011) .
