Christian Friedrich Stempel ( Sorbian Kito Fryco Stempel ; born November 29, 1787 in Groß Partwitz , Oberlausitz , † April 2, 1867 in Lübbenau ) was a Sorbian pastor and poet.

Life

He attended the Bautzen grammar school until Easter 1807 , studied theology in Leipzig and on September 7, 1807, together with other Lusatian students, founded the Corps Lusatia Leipzig . In 1809 he joined the Wendish Preacher Society . After the theological exam (1810), he worked as a private tutor for three years . Since 1813 pastor in Greifenhain , he became pastor in 1823 and in 1853 senior pastor at the Sankt Nikolai Church (Lübbenau) . He campaigned for the preservation of the Sorbian people. He wrote down Sorbian sagas, fables and fairy tales , translated Greek literature into Lower Sorbian and wrote poems in this language himself. Stempel is a well-known representative of Sorbian literature in the Vormärz .
