His parents were the Karlsruhe citizen NN Götz and his wife Wilhelmine Wenner .

Life

He first attended the community school and then the Polytechnic in Karlsruhe . Then he came on February 1, 1831 as a grenadier in the Baden Leib Grenadier Battalion. There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on August 6, 1833 and came on April 15, 1834 as a second lieutenant in the infantry regiment Margrave Wilhelm No. 3 in Rastatt . He was appointed battalion adjutant on November 1, 1836. He rose there on January 14, 1838 to lieutenant and on April 29, 1845 to captain. On March 24, 1847, he was transferred to the Grand Duke Regiment, former Line Infantry Regiment No. 1. During the Baden Revolution he took part in the march against the troops . When the troops were disbanded on August 13, 1849, he was given temporary retirement.

But first he came to the office of the 1st Infantry Regiment on September 3, 1849, and was re-employed as a captain in the 4th Infantry Battalion on March 3, 1850. As early as July 20, 1850, he was posted to the General Staff of the Baden troops in Prussia and released from this position on November 2, 1850. Instead, he was transferred to the General Staff on July 1, 1852. On September 18, 1853 he was awarded the Electorate of Hesse, 4th class , on October 7, 1853 with the Knight's Cross of the Dutch Order of the Oak Crown and on December 1, 1855 with the Knight's Cross of the Baden Order of Zähringer Löwen . He was promoted to major on July 19, 1856 and transferred to the 2nd Fusilier Battalion as commander on March 4, 1859. But on May 17, 1859, he was transferred to the General Staff and was appointed Sub-Chief of the General Staff of the VIII German Federal Corps. There he was put up for disposition as a lieutenant colonel on June 9, 1860 and transferred to the Baden War Ministry on June 25, 1860. There he was promoted to colonel on August 7, 1862 and major general on April 10, 1868. On April 24, 1868 he was appointed head of the 1st section of the Grand Ducal Baden War Ministry. In addition, on November 20, 1868, he received the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves . He took part in the Franco-German War . During the campaign he was given the management of the affairs of the Ministry of War and was entrusted with the deputy command of the Grand Ducal Baden division.

After the establishment of the empire, he was accepted into the Prussian army on July 15, 1871. There he came on November 4, 1872 to the board of the military commission for handling the business of the Baden Ministry of War. He was promoted to lieutenant general on March 22, 1873 and was put up for retirement on December 6, 1873, and was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle. He died in Karlsruhe on January 24, 1884.

General Gustav von Beyer wrote about him in 1871: Despite his 60 years of age, he is still a very sprightly, perfectly healthy man and a tireless, very zealous worker, who has always been a reliable support to me and has rendered the most essential and most successful services to the reorganization of the Baden contingent . He is therefore a very excellent force for office work and is well versed in all Prussian rules and regulations. I have no judgment about its usefulness in troop service. Since he surrendered his battalion in 1860, he has had no opportunity to develop further. Therefore, its usefulness in this direction appears doubtful. He himself has confidence in himself and immediately reports to take over command of the 1st Infantry Brigade when its commander, Prince Wilhelm, was seriously wounded near Nuits. For the time being, he is quite indispensable in his current position for the handling of the affairs of the Ministry of War after the entry into force of the military convention and until these affairs are completely settled.
