Christian Hacke (born March 13, 1943 in Klausenhof, East Prussia (now Podlazy, Poland )) is a German political scientist . He was a professor at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

Life

Christian Hacke was born in East Prussia. From 1966 to 1970 he studied political science, sociology and law at the Free University of Berlin (diploma 1970) and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . During the student unrest of 1968/69 he was chairman of the Ring of Christian Democratic Students (RCDS) in Berlin. In 1973 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD, the work was later published under the title “Die Ost- und Deutschlandpolitik der CDU / CSU. Paths and aberrations of the opposition since 1969 ”.

He then worked as a foreign policy assistant at the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus in Bonn, a speaker at the Institute for the Promotion of Talented Students of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and a research assistant at the research institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy (DGAP). In 1974 he became a lecturer at the Bonn Seminar for Political Science . He then received a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and was in the USA for archival studies on the “Nixon - Kissinger era”. After completion of the political science Habilitation at Hans-Adolf Jacobsen at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn in 1980 he taught as a Professor of Political Science with a focus on International Politics at the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg and 1991/192 as a visiting professor at the University of Potsdam . In 1996 he was Visiting Scholar at the Hoover Institution on War, Revolution, and Peace in Stanford and Guest Fellow of the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, DC

From 2000 to 2008 he was a full professor of political science at the Institute for Political Science and Sociology in Bonn. As the successor to Karl-Dietrich Bracher and Hans-Peter Schwarz , he held the chair for the science of politics and contemporary history before he retired. His academic students include: a. Volker Kronenberg and Matthias Zimmer .

The German Council on Foreign Relations , the International Institute for Strategic Studies , the Committee on Atlantic Studies and the World Security Network lead hoe as a member.

Hacke deals with recent German history, German and domestic and foreign policy, American history and foreign policy, and transatlantic relations. Political realism is another research focus of Hackes.

In an article published on July 29, 2018 for the daily newspaper and the news website Die Welt , Christian Hacke put a German nuclear weapon up for discussion.

He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Defense for the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr .

His son Jens Hacke (* 1973) is also a political scientist.
