Christian Heinrich Hohmann

Christian Heinrich Hohmann (born March 7, 1811 in Niederwerrn ; † May 12, 1861 in Schwabach ) was a Franconian composer, music teacher and violin school writer.

Life

Hohmann was a son of the farmer and tailor Georg Hohmann and Anna Hörlein. Active as a teacher at the teachers' seminar in Altdorf and Schwabach, Hohmann wrote several educational works, including a violin school, still known today as the Hohmann-Heim (ISMN M-700014-11-7), but also originally published (previously at Universal Edition Vienna ; now at FIRMAMENT Musik Verlag und Notenvertriebsgesellschaft mbH, Berlin).

He composed commissioned works (chamber music, organ, piano works, songs for solo and choir) and gave songs by Stuntz , Kreutzer , Salieri , Mozart , Breidenstein , Maurer, Hohmann, Freck, Call , Nägeli , Haydn , Schneider , Marschner , Graun, Tröger, Mendelssohn , Keller , Zöllner , Wölfel, Lindpaintner for male choir, with special consideration of educational aspects. Honors

In 1952 a street in his home town of Niederwerrn was named in his honor, Hohmannstraße , and streets in Schweinfurt , Bamberg , Ansbach and Bad Kissingen were also named in his honor.
