Christian Hieronymus Lommer (* August 1741 in Johanngeorgenstadt ; † February 20, 1787 in Annaberg ) was a Saxon mountain master and professor at the Freiberg Bergakademie .

Live and act

Lommer was born in 1741 as the son of the Freiberg mountain jury Johann Paul Lommer, who died in 1752 . At an early age he learned the basics of the mining trade in stamping works , washes and Johanngeorgenstädter mines . Thanks to a grant of 100 guilders he could from 1759 to 1763 in Probier- and Mark Scheidekunst be trained. His teacher was the later Johanngeorgenstadt mountain master Immanuel Heinrich Krippner . In order to receive this scholarship, he had to undertake to use his knowledge for the Saxon elector .

In Freiberg he was one of the first teachers at the Bergakademie founded in 1765. As an inspector, he was in charge of the library as well as the mineral and model collection that was on display in the house of the co-founder of the Bergakademie, Friedrich Wilhelm von Oppel . As the first lecturer in mineralogy, between 1766 and 1770, he had the task of showing and explaining this twice a week. From 1768 to 1770 he also gave lectures in mining art. During this time (1768) a colored geological map was created , which is considered the first of its kind. This card was only found in the Werner estate in the 1980s .

Between 1771 and 1780 he was miner for the Johanngeorgenstadt Mining Authority . In 1780 he was transferred to Annaberg as a mountain master. He held this office until his death.

In addition to his ministry work, Lommer also wrote scientific papers. Particularly noteworthy is a work on "Hornerz" ( Chlorargyrit ), which occurred in considerable quantities in Johanngeorgenstadt, as well as a pamphlet on the prize question "How were the mines of the ancients actually designed and furnished?"
