Christian Jachs (born September 25, 1966 in Linz ; † August 16, 2016 there ) was an Austrian politician of the ÖVP . Jachs was mayor of Freistadt from 2007 until his death and from 2011 to 2015 a member of the Austrian Federal Council .

Life

After attending elementary school in Grünbach and grammar school in Freistadt , Christian Jachs passed his Matura in 1986 . Until 1993 he studied law at the University of Linz . He was the original philistine of KaV Austro-Danubia in the ÖCV. After completing his studies, he became a member of the Office of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government and, in particular, Secretary of Provincial Councilor Leopold Hofinger .

In 1997, Jachs became secretary in the state parliament club of the ÖVP and in 2001 club director. In 2007 he successfully ran for the office of mayor of Freistadt; an office which he held until his death in 2016. Since 2009 Jachs was a member of the supervisory board of the Upper Austrian Insurance Company .

On April 7, 2011, Jachs was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . In the Federal Council, he was most recently Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science and Research from July to October 2015. After the state election in Upper Austria in 2015 , in which the ÖVP suffered heavy losses, he resigned from the Federal Council.

On the night of August 17, 2016, Christian Jachs succumbed to cancer. He was married and the father of two children, including the ÖVP politician Johanna Jachs .
