Christian Ludwig Seehas
Christian Ludwig Seehas (born October 8, 1753 in Schwerin ; † July 26, 1802 there ) was a German painter , later he was court painter to the dukes of Mecklenburg [-Schwerin].
Life
Seehas was a student of the famous court painter Georg David Matthieu (1737–1778), but this relationship was not exactly harmonious between the two. For this reason, Seehas studied further at the Dresden Art Academy and graduated with honors. Shortly afterwards he went to Vienna , where he portrayed the composer Joseph Haydn , among others . Seehas studied the old masters in Italy between 1786 and 1790 . Back at the court in Ludwigslust , Seeha's successor was Christoph Lisiewskyas court painter and created a wealth of portraits of the ducal family. He was the last court painter; after his death the position was not filled again. He was a member of the Dresden Freemason Lodge Zum Golden Apfel .
