Christian Matthias Heiss (born June 1, 1967 in Greding ) is a German church musician , composer of church music , former diocesan music director of Eichstätt and, since September 1, 2019, cathedral music director in Regensburg .

Life

Christian Heiss was born as the son of Otto Heiss and his wife Rosa. He completed his school days with the Regensburger Domspatzen and studied church music and organ at the Munich University of Music (graduation: church music A diploma and master class diploma) a. a. with Franz Lehrndorfer . After working as a musical assistant at Eichstätter Dom , he worked as a church musician in Ravensburg . In 1999 he was cathedral organist in Eichstätt and in autumn 2002 was appointed to succeed Wolfram Menschick as Eichstätter cathedral music director. He also held the office of diocesan music director and head of the office for church music in Eichstätt.

He works as a choir composer and has created numerous pieces that have been published by music publishers. On behalf of the German Bishops' Conference , he set the first sentence of Pope Benedict XVI to music. as an official gift from the German bishops on the occasion of the papal visit to Germany in summer 2011.

On March 25, 2019, the Regensburg diocese announced that Christian Heiss will take over the office of Regensburg Cathedral Music Director as the successor to Roland Büchner from September 1, 2019 . He is now the director of the Regensburger Domspatzen and is returning to his former school.

Christian Heiß is married and has three children.
