Christian Th. Müller

Christian Th. Müller (* 1970 ) is a German historian . He is a private lecturer at the University of Potsdam .

Life

Müller did his military service as a non-commissioned officer in the National People's Army (NVA). He then studied modern and contemporary history , sociology and political science at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 1990 to 1996 (MA 1996 with Konrad Canis ).

In 2000 he received a scholarship from the Hamburg Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Culture with Bernhard R. Kroener at the University of Potsdam with the dissertation Status and Mentality of NCOs for a time in the NVA. Investigations into everyday life and internal structure of a "socialist" army for Dr. phil. PhD. The work was awarded the Werner Hahlweg Prize for Military History and Defense Sciences (3rd Prize) in 2002 and presented at the German Historians' Day in Halle (Saale).

From 2001 to 2003 he was a visiting scientist and research assistant at the Center for Contemporary History Research (ZZF) in Potsdam and from 2004 to 2009 research assistant at the “Theory and History of Violence” department at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research (HIS). In 2010 he completed his habilitation in modern history at the University of Potsdam and became a private lecturer . From 2013 to 2015 he represented the professorship for military history / cultural history of violence there. In 2016 he became a freelancer at the Berlin Cold War College. He researches u. a. on the Cold War , on modern military history and on military sociology .

He has been a member of the Military History Working Group since 1995 . His main topics there are military culture and soldier subculture. From 2006 to 2011 he was editor of the Aks newsletter, and of the military history portal since 2012.
