Christian Wilhelm Friedrich Schmid (born December 24, 1739 in Marienberg ; † August 30, 1806 in Freiberg ) was a senior miner and senior miner from Saxony who was also known as a chronicler.

Life

His uncle was the Electorate of Saxony Mountain Commissionsrath and mountain Vogt Johann Christian Schmid in Eisleben . Professor Christian Heinrich Schmid in Giessen and the legal scholar Carl Ferdinand Schmid in Wittenberg were his cousins. His brother Karl Christian Conrad Schmid was tithe and counter-writer in Johanngeorgenstadt .

Christian Wilhelm Friedrich Schmid was born on Christmas Eve 1739 in the Erzgebirge mountain town of Marienberg as the son of the local miner Carl Ernst Schmid, whose ancestors came from the town of Elterlein . He went to school at the Lyceum in Marienberg, which was one of the most important Latin schools in the Ore Mountains.

From 1761 Christian Wilhelm Friedrich Schmid studied law at the University of Leipzig . From 1765 to 1768 he then worked as a lawyer and notary in Eisleben in the county of Mansfeld . He had received this position through the mediation of his uncle, who was active as a mountain commissioner in Eisleben. He then returned to his home in the Ore Mountains, where he was promoted to chief miner and from 1785 headed the Freiberg Mining Office.

Schmid was born with Christiane Friedericke. Simon married, the marriage remained childless. He died at the end of August 1806. In his will, he had established the Latin school in Marienberg and the miner's widow's fund in Freiberg as heirs. His extensive library was auctioned off at a profit by the estate administrator the following year.
