Christian d'Elvert (born April 11, 1803 in Brno ; † January 23, 1896 ibid) was an Austrian local politician and a regional historian of Moravia .

Live and act

D'Elvert was a liberal politician in what was then Austrian Moravia in the 19th century. His functions were a mandate in the Moravian state parliament and in the German National Assembly in Frankfurt am Main from 1848 to 1849 . From 1850 he was a councilor in the Moravian capital Brno .

In 1861 d'Elvert was elected Mayor of Brno and held the office until 1864. A second term lasted from 1870 to 1876.

Between 1871 and 1882 d'Elvert was a member of the House of Representatives of the Reichsrat in Vienna and in 1873 its senior president .

From today's perspective, his local political activities focused on the areas of urban development ( regulatory plan ), infrastructure and leisure and recreation.

D'Elvert was also active as a journalist, particularly in the fields of Moravian history, Brno town history, genealogy and aristocratic history, as well as the history of theater and music .

An elaborately designed plaque at the foot of Spielberg Castle commemorated his services to the development of the city . The memorial was removed after 1918, but has been in this place again since 2006. As a major exception for the Czech Republic , the memorial plaque in German was again attached and an additional plaque in Czech was added.

His son Heinrich d'Elvert was also a member of the municipal council of Brno, a member of the Moravian Landtag, a member of the Reichsrat and from October 21, 1918 to February 16, 1919 a member of the Provisional National Assembly in Vienna.
