Christiane Klapisch-Zuber
Christiane Klapisch-Zuber (* 1936 in Thann ) is a French historian and specialist in the European Middle Ages .
Life
She did her doctorate in 1966 at the Sorbonne with Jacques Le Goff with a thesis on the history of Carrara and marble processing and since 1962 she has been Chef de travaux, Maître-Assistante or Maîtresse de conférences at the École Pratique des Hautes Etudes , VIe Section / École des hautes études en sciences sociales (Paris). She has been the EHESS Directrice d'études since 1981.
Together with her American colleague David Herlihy , she wrote a work on the Florentine Catasto from 1427, which is considered a milestone in modern social history. In numerous publications she devoted herself to the Society of Florence in the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1993 she was responsible for volume 2 of the history of women and worked on many other major French projects on the history of the family and private life. In 2000, the Paris publisher Fayard published the book L'ombre des ancêtres: essai sur l'imaginaire médiéval de la parenté . The German translation is entitled Family Trees: An Illustrated History of Ancestry and was published in 2004 by Knesebeck Verlag .
