Egbert Baqué

Egbert Baqué (* 1952 in Saarbrücken ) is a German gallery owner , author and translator .

Life

Egbert Baqué grew up in Saarbrücken and later in Berlin , where he studied Sinology . He worked as a freelance author, translator and curator until the early 1990s and was responsible for museum exhibitions as a project manager within the framework of international cultural exchange.

In 1991 he founded his first gallery in Berlin . From 1997 to 2005 he worked as a correspondent for a Paris gallery and in this capacity prepared exhibitions with artists such as Georg Baselitz , Markus Lüpertz , Helmut Middendorf , Norbert Bisky and Markus Oehlen . He has been working as a translator since 2001 and has translated books and catalog articles a. a. on Pablo Picasso , Henri Matisse , Gustave Courbet , Matthias Grünewald , Velázquez , Yves Klein , Bettina Rheims , Mario Testino , Jannis Kounellis , John Chamberlain and Louise Bourgeois , but also on film topics such as Jean Renoir , Japanese and Indian cinema or the Film noir .

In autumn 2005 he founded his second gallery in Berlin, which mainly shows painting, drawing and photography. The gallery's artists are Abetz & Drescher, Wiebke Bartsch , Selket Chlupka, Winston Chmielinski, Claus Feldmann, Neal Fox, Giuseppe Gonella, Bettina van Haaren, Yago Hortal, Ivar Kaasik , LawickMüller, Volker Lehnert , Wolfgang Neumann , Tim Plamper, Fernando M. Romero, Joachim Seinfeld, Snapple and Franziska Strauss. Crossover projects that combine the visual arts with other art forms such as rock music , film or literature are among the focal points of the gallery program. In recent years, for example, exhibitions on Bob Dylan , David Bowie , Pussy Riot , Lou Reed and Aras Ören have been presented. The magazine KULTURforum called Egbert Baqué the "Rock´n´Roller among Berlin gallery owners".
