Christina-Maria Bammel

Christina-Maria Bammel (* 1973 in Berlin-Pankow ) is a German Protestant theologian and since December 2019 provost of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO).

Live and act

Christina-Maria Bammel grew up in Erfurt . She studied Protestant theology , philosophy and religious studies in Marburg , Berlin and Philadelphia (USA). From 1998 to 2004 she was a research assistant at the chair for systematic theology at the theological faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin . There she completed her doctorate in 2003 with a thesis on “Opened eyes - uncovered face. Theological Studies on Shame in Interdisciplinary Conversations "on the Dr. theol. After working as a consultant in the EKBO's press and public relations work, she completed her vicariate in the preacher's seminary in Wittenberg and in the parish of St. Petri - St. Marien in Berlin from 2006 to 2008 . Her ordination took place in March 2009 in Cottbus, from January 2009 to December 2015 she was pastor in the Evangelical Church Congregation am Weinberg in the parish of Berlin Stadtmitte . In 2015 she took over the management of the Church Life Department in the EKBO Consistory . Since 2019 she has been co-editor of the journal Evangelische Theologie .

In October 2019, Christina-Maria Bammel was elected by the regional synod as provost of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia. She has been the successor of Christian Stäblein, who was elected bishop of the regional church, since December 2019 and was officially introduced into her office on February 21, 2020. As provost, she is theological director of the consistory and responsible for theological questions of principle; she continues to head the department of theology and church life , in which the work areas of diaconia, ecumenism and world mission, journalism and media house are coordinated. The provost is a member of the regional synod of the EKBO and a member of the church leadership.

Christina-Maria Bammel is married and has two daughters.
