Michael Beintker (born April 3, 1947 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) is a German Protestant theologian and until 2015 was Professor of Systematic Theology and Director of the Seminar for Reformed Theology at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

biography

After graduating from high school in Jena in 1965 , he began studying Protestant theology there that same year. In 1966 he moved to the Martin Luther University in Halle / Saale and passed his first theological exam there in 1970. In 1972 he received his doctorate . His second theological exam followed in 1974 in Magdeburg. In the course of a position as a research assistant at the theological faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (1974–1985) he qualified as a professor and was then a lecturer there. In 1990 he was appointed to the professorship for systematic theology in Halle. 1991–1992 Beintker was Vice Rector for the Humanities in Halle. From 1992 until his retirement in 2015, Beintker was professor of systematic theology and director of the seminar for reformed theology at the University of Münster.

Research priorities

Beintker works primarily in relation to central topics of systematic theology in the context of the Reformed confessional commitment. Doctrine of God, soteriology and ecclesiology form his special focus. In addition, he deals with the theology of modern times, in particular with Karl Barth and his environment.

Special functions

Beintker is a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts , chairman of the theological committee of the Union of Evangelical Churches and deputy chairman of the Chamber for Theology of the Evangelical Church in Germany . For many years he has chaired the mixed commission for reforming theology studies and is a member of the Center for Religious Studies in Münster and the board of trustees of the Karl Barth Foundation in Basel. From 2001 to 2012 he was Co-President of the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe .

He acts as editor of the magazine for theology and church - from 2003 to 2012 he was its main editor -, the magazine Kirchliche Zeitgeschichte and various series of publications.

On September 23, 2011, Beintker was a member of the evangelical delegation, which was part of the Pope's visit with Benedict XVI. met in the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt .
