Christof Nel

Christof Nel (born April 7, 1944 in Stuttgart ) is a German theater and opera director .

Life

After graduating from high school, Nel studied art history and theater studies in Munich . He began his theater career as an actor and was engaged by Peter Stein at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer .

After the first directorial work in Cologne, productions followed in Frankfurt am Main , at the State Theater in Stuttgart and at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg . Further stations were u. a. Bochum , Berlin , Basel , Hanover and Hamburg .

Joint interdisciplinary and experimental work with Heiner Goebbels and William Forsythe at the Theater am Turm Frankfurt.

Since the 1980s, Christof Nel has also directed music theater, a. a. at the Frankfurt Opera , the Stuttgart State Opera , the Hanover State Opera and the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where, according to experts, he succeeded in producing one of the best productions of the opera Hoffmann's tales in the 2010/11 season . Nel has been directing opera at the Komische Oper Berlin since 1983.

Several of his theatrical productions have been invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen (for example his production of “Antigone” in the 1970s and Thomas Bernhard's adaptation of the novel “Alte Meister” in the 1990s ).

In June 2011 Nel staged the opera Kullervo by the Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen at the Frankfurt Opera .
