Christoph Überhuber
Christoph W. Überhuber (born October 26, 1946 in Vienna ; † August 26, 2016 ) was an Austrian scientist and artist . He lived and worked in Vienna.
Life
Christoph Überhuber completed his mathematics studies at the Vienna University of Technology in 1973 with a diploma and in 1976 with a doctorate. In 1979 he completed his habilitation in the field of numerical mathematics . Since 1998 Christoph Überhuber has been an associate professor at the Institute for Analysis and Scientific Computing at the Technical University of Vienna.
Christoph Überhuber dealt with the connection between methods of scientific imaging and artistic image creation. He attended various courses, including at the International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Salzburg with Rivka Rinn, Xenia Hausner and Ines Doujak and in Traunkirchen with Arnulf Rainer . Since 1996 his own artistic teaching activity has consisted of holding courses (e.g. the seminar "Art and Computer") for students at the Technical University and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.
With his artistic work, Christoph Überhuber moved in the fields of artistic photography , graphics and mixed media . In doing so, he opened up new technical ways of finding artistic images and often dealt with current social and political developments in his collage-like and multi-layered images.
Awards
- 1994: Heinz Zemanek Prize for exceptional research in the field of "Scientific Parallel Computation"
- 2006: Gordon Bell Prize for the fastest computer program in the world - "Large-Scale Electronic Structure Calculations of High-Z Metals on the BlueGene / L Platform"

- Christoph Überhuber has managed numerous projects funded by the Austrian Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF) and the Vienna Science, Research and Technology Fund (WWTF), e. B. in the special research area (SFB) AURORA (1997–2007).
