Christoph Dionysius Seeger , from 1801 Freiherr von Seeger , (born October 7, 1740 in Schöckingen , † June 26, 1808 in Blaubeuren ) was one of the earliest teachers and a main organizer of the High Charles School .

Life

Christoph Dionysius Seeger was a son of the Schöckingen pastor Johann Gottlieb Seeger and was born in the local parsonage. Originally also intended for clerical status, he attended the seminars in Blaubeuren and Bebenhausen , but then joined the Grenadier Regiment à cheval von Phull as a flag junior and took part in the campaign against Prussia . For his further education he studied at the University of Tübingen . His main interest was mathematics.

Duke Carl Eugen initially entrusted him with road construction tasks and later with the management of the leveling and gardening work at Solitude Palace . Seeger also had sons of soldiers to train there as gardeners. From these beginnings the "nursery school" Carl Eugen later developed. Seeger inspired the Duke to train not only craftsmen but also officers in this school, and soon afterwards became director of the Charles School. In this capacity he was responsible for drafting the curricula, supervising the lessons and exams, selecting the teachers and generally leading the education of the pupils. After Carl Eugen died on October 21, 1793, the management of the Karlsschule, which had had university status as the Hohe Karlsschule since 1781 , was in Seeger's hands. However, it was closed the following spring because Duke Ludwig Eugen did not want to continue the work of his predecessor.

Seeger was now a colonel in the Swabian district . From 1800 on, he was in charge of the Württemberg Reich contingent. He fought with his troops in the battle of Höchstädt . In 1801 he was raised to the baron status by the emperor, in 1805 he was commander of the Württemberg auxiliary corps under Napoleon against Austria. A year later he resigned from active duty as major general and brigadier for health reasons and died in 1808 while staying with his daughter Caroline Friederike von Kauffmann in Blaubeuren.

In addition to this daughter Caroline, he and his wife Johanne Louise had their son Carl Christian von Seeger , who became State Councilor and General Director of Hydraulics, as well as their daughters Charlotte Maria and Franziska Wilhelmine and their son Eugen.
