Christoph Martin (doctor)

Christoph Martin (born January 16, 1874 in Chiloé , † December 7, 1958 in Concepción ) was a Chilean medic .

Life

Born the son of a doctor who had emigrated to Chile, Martin attended high schools in Strasbourg and Puerto Montt . At the time of the Chilean Civil War, he traveled to Santiago de Chile in 1892 , where he finished his school days at the Instituto Internacionial and the Instituto Nacional. From 1894 to 1900 he studied medicine in Santiago de Chile. During this time he also worked as a working student . After his father had already been a member of the Arminia fraternity in the Burgkeller , Martin co-founded the Araucania fraternity during his studies in 1896 . He went on a six-month study trip through Germany . He was promoted to Dr. med. doctorate and then worked as a general practitioner in Concepción. There he was in 1905 a member of the Grand Lodge of Hamburg belonging Masonic Lodge on luck , the master of the chair he was 21 years old. In 1916 he co-founded the German-Chilean Confederation with Wilhelm Münnich .

He was the chief physician of the Sanatorio Alemán and was active as a professor of medical history .

As such, he dealt with the healing methods of the Araucans and Mapuches , among other things . He continued his father's research on the geography of Chile , which is why he became a corresponding member of the Geography Society in 1928 . He was the editor of the German language “Geography of Chile” written by his father.
