The Araucania fraternity is a student fraternity in Santiago de Chile and one of five fraternities in Chile . It was founded on March 31, 1896 by six German-Chilean students and is the oldest student association of German tradition outside of Europe.

history

The fraternity was founded on March 31, 1896. Among the founders of the medical student's Christoph Martin emphasized that the son of Jena Urburschenschafters drove forward Carl Martin, the idea to form a fraternity in Santiago de Chile.

An old man from the Araucania fraternity launched an initiative in 1924 to found the Montania fraternity ( Concepción ).

In 1937, the Araucania launched a push to counter the influence of National Socialism among the German-Chileans.

An old man from the Araucania founded the girls' Erika Michaelsen in Santiago de Chile in 1969 .

Couleur, motto, circumstances

The name Araucania refers to Araucania and was chosen as a sign of the roots of the German-Chileans in their Chilean homeland. The Araucania uses the colors black-red-gold as an expression of their origin , which they also wear in their boys' band with golden percussion , there is also a black and red fox band for the foxes . A black cap is worn as headgear . The Araucania has the motto honor, discipline, unity . As a founding member, she is a member of the Federation of Chilean fraternities , which has a friendship agreement with the German fraternity . She maintains a cartel with the fraternity of Montania ( Concepción ).
